"Cure for 100 Diseases", "Longevity Spinach", "Leaves of Life" and even "Leaves of God" - Gynura Procumbens

Gyn"Cure for 100 Diseases", "Longevity Spinach", "Leaves of Life" and even "Leaves of God" - Gynura Procumbensura (Latin name Gynura Procumbens), in cooking Okinawan spinach or Handam is a unique plant that is still little known and widespread in Russia, but all over the world it has long been called the "Cure for 100 diseases", "Spinach of longevity", "Leaves of Life" and even "Leaves of God" ... A combination of traditional medicine and a modern scientific approach, promising to open new horizons for a healthy lifestyle.

The plant is widely used in medicine, cosmetology and cooking.

The plant has extraordinary properties:

This is a remedy for diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, cancer, fever, rash, urinary tract infections, kidney problems, inflammation, allergies, herpes and viral infections, migraines, constipation, rheumatism and dysentery. This plant is very rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory flavonoids and other phenols, as well as antitumor proteins - peroxidase. It also contains tannins, alkaloids, saponins, sterols and essential oils. Eating a few leaves daily reduces blood sugar levels (but not for people with normal sugar levels), blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

In recent years, interest in gynura procumbens has increased significantly, which is due to scientific studies that confirm the presence of a wide range of biologically active substances in its composition: flavonoids, carotenoids, alkaloids and essential oils. The therapeutic effects of gynura procumbens are most actively studied by scientists from Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea and Japan. The results of these studies confirm the hypoglycemic (antidiabetic) effect of the plant, as well as its anti-inflammatory, antiradical, anticarcinogenic, hypotensive and antiulcerogenic effects.

G. The plant belongs to the chrysanthemum family (Asteraceae) tropical plant grows in West Africa, China and Southeast Asia.

H. This is a spreading herbaceous plant with stems that can reach 3 meters in length if left to grow without any care. It is best to give the plant at least 1 square meter per bush to spread out, and then support growth that extends beyond its allotted area by pruning (or eating) the plant. For more efficient yields, it is possible to tie it to a trellis as it grows, then up to 6 bushes can be planted per 1 square meter.

I. This strategy is useful and has been tested at Greenbar; it effectively increases yields from 1 square meter. The plant is too sprawling to be used in a densely planted raised bed.

When growing Gynura hydroponically, the leaves grow watery and contain virtually no nutrients and the beneficial components of the plant receive a lot of water and nutrition, and the leaves themselves are in a dry indoor climate, which is fundamentally inconsistent with the natural conditions in which the plant is able to accumulate the necessary elements. And the root mass is not suitable for medical use at all. Also, long-term cultivation remains impossible because from excess water in the root mass, plants that have taken root and grown for more than a year may have old vines that are covered with new growth, rot and begin to smell.

In nature, the plant grows in a hot, dry climate, so its usual habitat is very dry soil with rare opportunities to get moisture, and high air humidity.

When collecting in nature, parts of the plant with medicinal properties are collected.

- These parts of the plant are collected at a time when they contain a large number of active substances (depending on what stage of development the plant is in).

- There are calendar dates for collecting medicinal raw materials, but you can't follow them thoughtlessly, because they are indicated approximately, and give deviations depending on the collection area and weather.

- Aboveground parts of plants are collected when the weather is clear, dry, and this should be done at the beginning of the day - from 9 to 10, because the plant has dried out from the dew; and from 16 to 17 hours - until the sun reaches its zenith at 11.

- Underground parts (roots and rhizomes) can be collected in wet weather, because they are washed before drying anyway. Herbs used for food are collected before flowering.

- Collection must be done carefully, avoiding the ingress of garbage and parts of other plants (the quality of the raw material decreases if impurities are present).

- Plants damaged by insects, rust, fungal diseases, contaminated and heavily dusted - are not collected.

- The collector must have inventory - pruning shears, scissors, bags, baskets, tarpaulin.

Then it is important to save the plant for drying and processing.

Technologies of progressive plant growing solve all problems at once regarding the quality of raw materials, timing and stages of collection:

- In Greenbar, the parameters for growing a plant with the required content of active substances are pre-set. We set the data of the parameters that were in natural conditions in accordance with the calendar plan, temperature and humidity changes, and the parameters of nutrition and root moisture. Thus, due to the software, we can grow guaranteed high-quality medicinal raw materials.

- Planting and collection of raw materials of the required volume are included in the yield planner. When ripe, a notification comes that the plant is ready for harvesting.

- The absence of insects and diseases, as well as ideal stable growth conditions, do not give an error in the volume of planned and collected raw materials.

Growing such a plant has the cost of a salad, and in commercial sales it is in demand 10 times more expensive than traditional salads and spinach. Growing this type of plant will become a profitable, useful and popular business in the coming years.
